6 steps to socially responsible business

When setting up your business, it is important to take into account the social issues of the country or region where you are located and take your responsibilities. Here are the 6 points to follow in order to lead a responsible strategy.

Step 1: Know your environment

Before starting a business, an entrepreneur always studies the economic environment in which he or she wants to operate and therefore spends time analysing his or her sector of activity (potential dangers, opportunities, competition, etc.). It is at this point that it is also necessary to analyse the social environment in which one wishes to set up a business. Before setting up your company abroad, you need to know the issues of the country in question that you will have to deal with. Otherwise, it will be early retirement. By conducting this research at the same time, you save time and money.

Step 2: Adapt your mission and vision

When you create a business, you also have to define it: “Who are we and where do we want to go? “This is called the company’s mission and vision. Values are needed to define the company’s goals. The vision must therefore be in line with the social situation of the various stakeholders (employees, partners, consumers). Communicating values can be a marketing advantage but also a way of remembering the choices made at the creation of the business. This is valid for both multinationals and auto-entrepreneurs.

Step 3: Make concrete commitments

Words have a certain weight, but actions are all the more effective. The commitment must not remain theoretical (like a simple charter that can be consulted on an official website) but must also be translated into practical decisions. These decisions can be internal (daily practices within the company that change its culture) and/or external (support a charity, create a foundation, sign a charter, get labels).

Step 4: Connect with serious partners

Synergy is a phenomenon to be taken into account. It allows for a more efficient use of the resources invested and is also a source of motivation to continue for the different actors involved. Signing an agreement or charter with partners and committing together also helps to create stronger links.

Step 5: Evaluate the results of your actions

Without concrete evaluation, it is impossible to measure the impact of its actions. Studies must be carried out, either internally or externally depending on the situation. How do employees or partners perceive the decisions made to encourage sustainable development? Is the association we support serious and effective enough in its work? How can things be improved?

Step 6: Never be satisfied with success

It is important to repeat the entire process regularly. Although the results are undeniable, society is constantly evolving and will always have new needs. This is why it is necessary to be proactive (or at least sufficiently reactive) to remain consistent with its vision and objectives.
